Oh no, a major celebrity is dead! Call the has-been-celebrity-rent-a-quote-hotline! The thing that makes it relevant is that it’s a MIDLANDS celebrity - not a “LONDON” celebrity, oh no. I bet the editor was secretly hoping that Jasper Carrot had met Jacko, rather than this nobody…

MIDLAND pop stars and celebrities today paid tributes to Pop King Michael Jackson as millions of fans around the world mourned his death.

Among those sharing memories of the music genius were members of Musical Youth. Michael Grant, keyboard player with the group, who had a worldwide hit with Pass The Dutchie, said he and drummer Junior Waite first met the King of Pop at an awards ceremony in London.

‘‘It was the BPI awards which was the forerunner of the Brits,’’ said Grant who at the time was barely in his teens.

‘‘When we finally met him he said he was a big fan of Musical Youth. We were staggered. Then he gave me his phone number and told me to call him if we were ever in Los Angeles.

I wonder why Jacko was a fan…
